He is passionate about local affairs. Over the years, he has published 5 calligraphy collections, 8 collections of prose, miscellaneous discourses, a collection of poems and is a prolific art creator.
He started calligraphy from Weibei style, tracing back to clerical script, seal script and bronze script. He has been immersed and deeply focused in calligraphy for over 20 years. He has also practiced the vigorous brush strokes, adjusting the thick strokes, further studying cursive style for over 20 years. Stone engraving, styling the lines and ink, the sturdy brushstrokes, the cursive on white, light and heavy strokes and the slow-moving cursive artwork make the Chinese characters, black on white, have a dialogue on paper and also at the same time express his personal enthusiasm towards space, life, country and work. The traditional Chinese literati have a deep memory and use this as a career. Shan Guqing has worked together with the theater numerous of times, and has also been in a movie of Hou Hsiao-Hsien, an international director.
